Golden Globes 2014 : “Best Dressed”
GOLDEN GLOBES 2014
“Best Dressed”
My favorite looks from the red carpet….

—–
Leslie Mann — “Dolce & Gabbana”
Black lace has never looked better. This is an example of a dress that would not work on someone with a fuller bust. On Leslie the scalloped top and peplum at the waist giver her an amazing silhouette. Perfect simple hair, red lipstick and that clutch is just the bit of sparkle she needed.
Julianna Margulies — “Andrew Gn”
This was the first “Stunner” I saw this year where I was blown away. Bautifully done. Kudos to Julianna for choosing this designer. With this gold brocade detail on the shoulders and hemline she is reminiscent of Anne Boleyn in “The Tudors”, one of my favorite women of all time. One word to describe this look: Regal.
Uma Thurman — “Versace”
Classic example of the seductive sparkles we have all come to know and love from Versace. This dress is interesting without being too risky. Just enough detail going on. I could have done without the long earring competing but the swept back hairstyle is definitely a great way to show off the neckline.
Sofia Vergara — “Zac Posen”
As I mentioned on Twitter I expected Zac Posen to deliver a gorgeous gown. This one is a beautiful example. Sofia’s necklace is some of the most (and only) colorful jewelry we saw all night. Very refreshing! The dress was criticized for being too voluminous on the bottom but when you have the body that Sofia was blessed with I say….go BIG or go home!
Sandra Bullock — “Prabal Gurung”
I loved this look on Sandra. Even the side ponytail! It just WORKS. I disagree with most people I’ve spoken to that disliked it. The colors stood out amongst the sea of reds, black and silver (which WHY this happens on award shows I’ll never understand) and I thought it was very flattering on her frame. Plus the shoes couldn’t have been any sweeter. Love them!
Lupita Nyong’o — “Ralph Lauren”
This color on her is divine! Of course the ‘cape dress’ trend living on after Gwyneth’s Tom Ford moment (2012 Oscars) makes me a happy girl! Sure it’s a little close for comfort to wear a similar style so soon after Goddess Gwynny but let’s hope this style becomes “timeless”. It certainly should be. Thank goodness Lupita’s stylist didn’t overload her with jewelry or heavier makeup. Keeping it chic with only stud earrings and rings was a perfect choice.
Emma Watson — Dior Haute Couture
Young. Gorgeous. Fashion Forward! Emma Watson literally, in my opinion, nails it almost every single time. To take such a risk yet remain classy AND youthful was a huge feat for my favorite “Harry Potter” heroine. Bonus points for incorporating a blue shoe to up the “wow” factor.

Final Thought…
I think every style-savvy girl watches award shows to gush over the gowns. But there is always one in particular that you can picture yourself in. Imagine having a stylist (or even better, being your own…) and getting to choose from the plethora of amazing gowns shown at this years Golden Globes. Which one is most…YOU? I’d love to hear! Contact me via the “Ask Val” page or comment below.
If you’re wondering what I would have worn? Yikes! So hard to choose! But if I must…..the dress that screamed “Valerie” to me was worn by film star Kate Beckinsale by designer Zuhair Murad. (Photo below) Sparkly, a touch of art deco, figure flattering and featuring one of my fantasy gown must haves….a mermaid tail. It’s all about how you want to be remembered. And in this? People I am sure would describe Kate as “Simply dazzling from head to toe.”
