Spanish Lace

DSC07942

So here I am in beautiful Barcelona, Spain at the historically beautiful Casa Vicens wearing a designer original whilst flitting about on my romantic holiday.

…or uhh…more like I went to Rollins College in my hometown of Orlando, Florida to live out my fantasy of being a Spanish mamacita in what I consider to be just as good as designer clothing: Zara Woman. 🙂

A flight delay is something that could ruin your entire mood and travel experience. But I lucked out a few weeks ago on my way home to the US from London Gatwick airport. I discovered a HUGE triple discount sale at the airport’s Zara boutique and found this two piece top and skirt set marked down to just £30. That’s TOTAL. For both items. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to shoot in this outfit and explore the sort of “pajama trend” I’ve seen countless blog posts about. A slouchy, satiny fabric with delicate lace details certainly felt very “sleepwear” to me. In case you didn’t know, I usually sleep in silk nightgowns (mostly vintage) or silky pajama sets. I have a blog coming up dedicated to my love/obsession with nightgowns and why I think they are so vastly underrated.

Too keep the look from feeling too…well…sleepy…I decided to toughen it up with heavy leather pumps and a simplistically beautiful crocodile print wristlet from my @LuxuryDivas accessories box. (Info on these boxes and a special discount code are found in a previous blog post about the brand! Have a look!) I added some glitz with my prized pave diamond watch (Dolce & Gabbana) that I wear every single day and some black, rosary type beads with an ornate cross. Dolce and Gabbana’s advertisement’s really inspired me here as they always evoke a sort of romantic, baroque vibe while staying true to their iconic, sexy aesthetic. Google them and you’ll see exactly what I was aiming for.

The black tuxedo jacket is worn purposely slung over my shoulders rather than the conventional IE: boring way. It’s the choice way that fashion editors wear their jackets and it’s now something I do all the time for instant chic! Try it! This black jacket from J. Crew is one of my favorite pieces to wear on cool evenings. It’s so much more sophisticated than say, a black leather motorcycle jacket. Though that would work here too. But a tailored suit jacket, especially worn in such a carefree but admittedly thought-out way, really elevates the look into fancier territory.

As with any outfit I looked at the pieces and thought a lot about what fantasy I wanted to create with it. This is fashion story telling at it’s finest! All my favorite things are here. Historic (looking) buildings, big bouncy hair, a feminine yet sexy ensemble and giant paparazzi-proof sunglasses. These are perfect for me to hide behind while I’m pretending to be a sultry Spanish film star in 1940’s Barcelona.

Hope you enjoy the photos!
