Do you ever feel you were born in the wrong era? Me too! Gone are the days where airport travel is an occasion to pull out all the stops when it comes to dressing well. I however emphatically refuse to accept this. I LOVE to travel. I am lucky that my profession includes so much of it because building what I call “airport outfits” is quite possibly the most thrilling thing in the world to me.
Where is she going? Why does she look so mysterious? Is she some foreign socialite I’ve seen in the pages of Vogue? These are all questions your outfit should illicit from strangers.
On a particularly breezy afternoon jet-setting off to an event in Galveston, Texas I did a quick pre-flight photoshoot on the tarmac to showcase one of my favorite travel ensembles. For this one, I chose various shades of jade to be my guide. This adorable “Gatsby” style hat from Saks Fifth Avenue was the piece I built the look around entirely. Luckily I had a vintage scarf and a Banana Republic cashmere sweater (amazing thrift store find) to back me up. Adding simple black and gold accessories upped the glam factor and took this outfit to (pun intended) sky high levels of chic!
So! On your next trip will you take the “safe” route and dress so casually that you blend in with the other insipid sweats & ugg-wearing airport zombies? Or will you join the elite by creating a comfortable yet sophisticated look that reminds others of dazzling jet-set travel days gone by?
I know you’ll make the right choice. If not, you wouldn’t be reading this. 😉
Safe travels,
V. xo
